Late Night Shopping will be once again on Thursday evenings in 2009 The move to a Thursday evening helped reduce the conflicting interests between the familes out to enjoy the shopping experience and those groups out to enjoy the pubs and clubs in the town.

Musical Markets:
A Series of special festive Pannier Markets take place throughout December. Livening up markets on Sunday, December 6 and Sunday, December 13 will be street theatre from Stiltskin plus music from South Molton Town Band and the Barnstaple Youth Marching Band. There will also be a market on Thursday, December 17 with extra musical entertainment on the High Street for late night shoppers with the North Devon Gang Show and the Barnstaple Youth Marching Band.
Thursday, December 10 features Snow Queen and Ice Elf, plus up and coming punk rock trio, Severe Zero on the acoustic High Street stage. This date also marks the start of this year's panto, Cinderella at the Queen's Theatre.
Friday, December 11 features music from classical guitarist, Al Marconi.
Saturday, December 12 is a chance to hear the Barnstaple Concert Band and the Salvation Army Band playing Christmas carols in the town centre.
Friday, December 18 features another set from classical guitarist Al Marconi.
Saturday, December 19 includes traditional melodies from the Barnstaple Concert Band and the Salvation Army Band who hope to get everyone in the Christmas spirit with their traditional melodies.
Sunday, December 20 is a chance for the South Molton Town Band and Barnstaple Youth Marching Band to spur everyone on to finish their last minute Christmas shopping.
Tuesday, December 22 is the last late night shopping with carols from Roundtable Santa Sleigh and Barnstaple joint churches.
Thursday, December 24 is the last day to shop. South Molton Town Band plus the Salvation Army Band sing Christmas songs. Shops in the town are closed Christmas Day with some stores open on Boxing Day.
Christmas Crèche:
3 free Art Crèches organised by Barnstaple Town Centre Management in partnership with North Devon Museum and Playworks take place on Saturday, December 5, Saturday December 12 and Saturday December 19. The crèche held at 5, Cross Street, Barnstaple, is aimed at children aged four upwards, and is run by qualified Play and Childcare workers. Booking forms and details are available through The North Devon Museum.
