Winsford (pop 370) is often called the prettiest village on Exmoor. Lying in a valley to the north of Dulverton, it is steeped in history and has eight bridges over the many small streams. It is so called as it lies on the Winn brook where it converges with the River Exe.
The village boasts one church, one thatched inn, one village shop, a tea rooms and a guest house. It is situated right in the heart of Exmoor and is well situated for those visitors who enjoy walking, pony trekking or fishing.
A little further afield, there are the market towns of South Molton and Honiton, well known for antique shops. Taunton, the county town of Somerset, is a mere 40 minutes away with everything that you would expect from a busy, thriving town. If you like the sea, both the North and South Devon coastlines are within easy touring distance. Up into the North Devon countryside, there is the famous 'Doone Valley' immortalised by R.D. Blackmore in his novel 'Lorna Doone'.
In the village of Winsford itself, everything is peaceful. Morning rush hour is two tractors going up the road. There are no traffic jams, double yellow lines, parking meters, traffic wardens, bus lanes, or anything else that you just long to get away from. With attractions and activities to keep all the family smiling and entertained during your holiday, Exmoor through rain or shine offers plenty to do.
For the family you have zoos, railways, honey farms, harbours, birds of prey, festivals, birds and animals, castles and quaint old villages. For the romantic in you fantastic walks along beautiful beaches and county lanes, ending with a relaxing drink in some of the nicest inns and restaurants in the country.
