Barnstaple in Bloom began in 1990 since which time it has gone from strength to strength.
In the last twelve years Barnstaple has won numerous major trophies for its floral excellence, it has represented the Westcountry reaching and winning the National Finals of Britain in Bloom competition on no less than three occasions, the most recent in 1999.
It can be fairly said that Barnstaple is probably the most successful town in the competition – in fact the “best blooming town in the country”.
Success brings many thousands of visitors to the town to see the floral decorations throughout the summer, which in turn brings many benefits to the town in the form of trade and tourism.
The Bloom is a Registered Charity and is run by a dedicated Committee, all volunteers, who give many hours of spare time to ensure that Barnstaple in Bloom continues to be a success.
We work with the North Devon District Council Parks Department, local growers, the business community and other volunteer groups, not forgetting of course Barnstaple Town Council whose help and support is vital to our continued success.
Barnstaple has been selected by the South West in Bloom Committee to represent our region in the National competition this year so 2003 is going to be another challenging year.
