How to Measure Curtains | Guide to Blinds | Guide to Lighting | Guide to Pictures and Mirrors

More and more homes are choosing blinds for a standalone option or as a complementary to curtains. With this in mind we have designed a large range to suit all tastes. They are cost effective and practical. Like curtains they can be blackout, thermal or purely decoration to tie in with your theme.

Roman Blinds

Roman Blinds are growing in popularity and are Flat when down but form pleats or folds when raised. We carry a range of plain coloured blinds and patterned that are great value for money with an easy to use mechanism and fitting.

Roller Blinds
Roller Blinds are made from fabric that is rolled up and down onto the fixings. Our ranges of blinds come in a range of plain colours and patterns, suedette rollerblinds are also available. We also have a range of blackout blinds for south facing rooms or shift workers. All blinds come with fixings and simple to use fitting instructions. Our range of blinds come in standard widths but can be cut to size. If however none of these fit our stores have a custom made service.

Venetian blinds

Venetian Blinds are made up of horizontal slats of wood or aluminium that can be raised up and down and tilted to allow or block light .As with all our blinds Venetians come in a range of standard widths and colours. Some wooden binds can be trimmed to size but not as easily as roller blinds. Our stores also offer a custom made service.

Measuring for Blinds
Blinds can be fitted in or out of the windows recess. When deciding on where the blinds are to fit please consider the following points. You may need to fit the blind onto the outside if the recess is less than 7.5cm deep or if the window opens inwards. Another factor that may affect this is if your window is not straight. If the measurements vary by more than 2cm the blinds may not operate properly.

Inside Recess Fitting
First check that the recess your blind is going into is not obstructed in any way so the blind can be hung freely when fully extented.
Measure the total width from A to B (in diagram below) and the length from C to D. Do this in several places to allow for an slight variation or irregularity in your windows.
Where possible always use a metal tape measure to gain a more accurate measurement.

Outside Recess Fitting
Decide how far you want the blind to overlap on both sides, we recommend this should be at least 2 iniches.
Carfully measure the width from A to B (diagram below), adding a further 1 1/2 inches to take into account of the operating mechanism. you may wish to add more of the blind to overlap as this can prevent light coming around the edges and gives a more finished off effect.
Then Measure from C to D for the length you require.

Cutting Down a Ready Made Roller Blind
if you need to reduce the width of a roller blind we recommend you follow these guidelines:

Using a metal ruler, measure the required width from the outside edge of one bracket to the outside edge of the other.
Deduct the width of the winding mechanism from this figure before you cut the tube to the desired lenght.
Use a mini hacksaw to cut the tube and sharp sissors for the trim and fabric..
